landed here for lunch this past week. great find (thanks cuzzo)! they had a wide selection of traditional Vietnamese food and other non-traditional dishes. I ordered the Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac) and it was seasoned to perfection. a great stop if you're ever in the area.

hong kong islander
one of my favorite indulgences is dim sum. I LOVE this stuff. luckily, Sacramento has a fairly good selection of dim sum restaurants. I recently tried Hong Kong Islander off of Freeport. my first experience was mixed. food was delicious. service... well, not so great. I thought it must have been an off day so I returned for a second go. luckily, food was still good, and service was much better.
So, next time you're looking for a brunch/lunch place, consider some dim sum. and oh, don't forget your friends.
happy friday!
a peach bellini to kick start this weekend. cheers!

want to enjoy a traditional english pub? well, supposedly this is it. (I couldn't tell you what a "traditional english pub" is supposed to be like so you'll have to tell me if it is) all i know is, if you want to enjoy some great food, friendly service, and a great relaxed environment, this is the place to go. I went here on a saturday afternoon for late brunch. it looked busy, and I thought it was going to be a long wait, but ended up getting seated on the porch area relatively quickly. I was having a hard time with the menu ... so many choices! but eventually ordered the corned beef hash.
it did NOT disappoint.
beach hut deli
Surfin Cow. Roast Beef. Bacon. Avocado. 'Nuff said. Bring a friend, split a sandwich or have one all for yourself.
san tung aka the place with the "crack chicken wings"
ok. so many of you know about my love for chicken wings. this place tops it all. San Tung in San Francisco. everyone comes here for their famous Original Dry Fried Chicken Wings. everyone. you can't spot a table without those delicious golden fried wings topped with a sweet glaze, hint of chili and ginger.. YUM! they also have a wonderful selection of dumplings and noodles. below is the noodles with peanut sauce.
hint: if you do decide to give this place a try, be ready for a wait. parking is not super easily accessible. give yourself some time to find parking. head straight inside (fight through the crowd if you must). find your way to the little white board and put your name on the list. the waiters will make their way down the list and get to you. (usually it's 30-40 minutes). once you're in, order and enjoy. :)

birthday dinner #3 - 58° & holding
I've been to 58° & Holding Company a while ago for lunch, but have never been there for dinner. Tonight a friend suggested it for my birthday celebration and so there we were. When we first arrived, we weren't so sure we were going to stay for dinner - the seating was very limited considering we had a party of 6. There was plenty of seating for parties of 2 or 3. However, the waitress quickly offered some suggestions including pulling 2 small round pub tables together inside or pulling some tables together outside. We opted for outside seating, which I'll admit, was a bit awkward since once seated, it would have been near impossible to get up. But nonetheless, the service was great, food choice was limited, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food, and I had a great time. Tips: for larger parties, call in advance. Also, if you're looking for large portions, this is not the place. However, if you want to have good food and some good wine, might want to stop by and give it a try.
