landed here for lunch this past week. great find (thanks cuzzo)! they had a wide selection of traditional Vietnamese food and other non-traditional dishes. I ordered the Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac) and it was seasoned to perfection. a great stop if you're ever in the area.

lunch date!
first, i should say, i love crepes. mostly desert crepes, but most any crepes. today i decided to go out on a limb and get the aloha crepe - a savory crepe with ham, cheese, pineapples, onions, and oh yeah ... sweet and sour sauce. i have to admit that immediately after ordering, i felt a bit of remorse. i mean, there were so many other options, but why did i order this one? however, after i had a couple bites, i was pretty glad i did. the crepe was pretty tasty and hit the spot.
friday at last!
today was a particularly challenging day. i think most of us had too much fun at happy hour that it felt like it should have been the weekend already. also, the weather was really getting to a lot of folks. close to lunch, i really wanted something nice and warm. so off it was to Bangkok @ 12.
this place is one of my favorite places for a nice indulgent lunch. their food is consistently good and always have a special of the day (meat or veggie) and a variety of other lunch specials. i've been here for dinner a few times too with some friends and all in all, feedback is always very good.
my food was very good today, although, now when i look at the picture, i'm thinking Ms. HB had the right idea with the broccoli and tofu... it looks so yummy i want to lick my monitor. (was that out loud? oh well!)
after coming back, a few meetings, and wrapping up the work for the week, it was time to head home. it was one of those evenings when again, i didn't feel like cooking but really wanted some nice, warm, comforting food. however, being ridiculously and unjustifiably lazy, i suggested chipotle. so Man and i hopped in the car... and about 2 minutes into the car ride, it really dawned on us that chipotle was just not gonna cut it. so we headed to one the best mexican place we know... El Novillero. this place has been around sacramento for over 40 years. we arrived, waited about 10 minutes (which is great for friday evening) and were then seated and ordered.
food bliss. and yes, leftovers for tomorrow.
tomato basil soup
after bragging about how much leftovers i had wednesday night, I of course to forget to bring it in to work. go figure. luckily, i had stashed away some food and snacks and found a container of campbell's kettle style tomato & sweet basil soup (ooohhhhh). i have never tried this variety before, and thought, well, i'd either try it now or head back to old soul for some smell, i mean soup. i decided to try the campbell soup.
the verdict: it was goooood. the soup was well seasoned with black peppers and basil and had a nice creamy texture. the soup was also surprising filling. i only wished i had some bread or a side salad to go with it. i was a little annoyed because the instruction on the packaging said i couldn't heat the soup in its container (thus using the square dish seen above). later, i did go to their website and found out you can, in fact, microwave in that container. (i know, you're so excited for that news).
the other tidbit of information i found out was that the container actually had 2 servings - so buyer beware - at first glance, you may think it's only 260 calories for this generously sized container, but it is in fact 2 servings. anyways, in case anyone is interested - nutrition facts below.
