winner winner, chicken dinner (er, lunch)!
so anyone who's known me for a period of time will hear me talk about going to San Francisco for some chinese chicken wings. call it an obsession but i love these wings. it has been a really long time since i've had this, mainly because i keep forgetting they're closed on wednesdays and keep showing up, only to be utterly disappointed (read as: hulk mode). anyways. not this day. i woke with full anticipation of either going to UC Davis Picnic Day or Sacto MoFo, but wasn't really feeling either one of those. eventually I decided it was time to get my "crack chicken wings". so i drove.
about two hours later, i arrived at San Tung Restaurant. it was a little past 1 PM and the place was packed, with the line of people out the door. i walked inside to put my name on the whiteboard (they don't have hosts/hostesses to do that so you'll have to do it yourself) and waited....
almost 45 minutes later, i was seated... and naturally starving. i ordered the original dry fried chicken wings (if you come here, you'll see that EVERYONE orders this) and a few other dishes - pork dumplings, walnut prawns, combination fried rice, noodles in peanut sauce (my other favorite). maybe it was because i was hungry, but it felt like forever before the food arrived. when it did, i was very very happy. everything was super tasty, and yes, worth the drive :)
i do have to admit, perhaps i over thought the "crack chicken wings" because although it was good, it wasn't as i had remembered it. it was a little sweeter, a little less spicy. nonetheless, still one of my favorite spots... and believe me when i say, i will be back.
old soul, new smell
a few coworkers and i went to Old Soul to grab a bite to eat. naturally i forgot to take a picture of the food until i was nearly finished with my food. i suppose i don't need to tell you if i liked the food or not. i my cleaned plate, if you didn't notice already. there was a number of things on their menu, include grill cheese, meatloaf sandwiches, and salads which i'm told are very good. i decided to try the special they had today - a ham, bacon, avocado sandwich on artisan bread (or perhaps it was focaccia). results? it was pretty dang tasty in my opinion. they did advertise it as having a jalapeno spread .. but i didn't taste much of it.. which was fine. overall, food was good. company even better.i will miss this place when we move our office downtown. in general, good food, good coffee, great employees, and best of all, free wifi. of course it does come with its drawback - if you plan on eating here, be prepared to walk away with a lingering smell of ... well, old soul.

so it begins
Mr. TG & Mr. AC ... this one's for you two!
let's just start off by saying, i love food. but not simply because it feeds my body, but rather, i love what food can do for your soul - bringing back childhood memories, creating new ones with family and friends. the conversations. the drinks. the laughter. the joy. that's what i really love about food. it's what happens in the presence of food.
i will be attempting to log some of my food expeditions here. i premise this by saying i'm no true food critic. you'll hear me say "that place is soooo gooooood!" or an occcasional "yummy!" ... what you won't see me doing is describing the succulent aromas with contrasting textures which creates a once in lifetime type of experience. no, not this girl. and although i will always try to include pictures when possible, half of my food is usually eaten by the time i remember to take a dang picture.
anyhow, enjoy, eat, be merry. if you don't hear from me for a while, no worries, i may simply be in a food coma. drop me a line and send some encouragement (in forms of chocolate candy)

ps. i really detest punctuation. probably because i'm not good at it. so, please, be warned. english teachers and grammar gurus, you're in for a bumpy ride!
pss. i think i have to say something to the effect of "this is my own personal opinion. anything expressed on this blog is purely my point of view and does not in any way representative of company, peers, family, friends, or my subconscious self."
